Playdough & Sean Patrick announce the October 16th release date for their album, We Buy Gold. The first single, "Humble Pie", showcases the duo's diversity and is matched with a video that captures the party time persona their fan base has come to love.
"I wanted to challenge our process with these songs. We were in L.A. working in the same building as Skrillex and running into all kinds of artists and musicians in the elevator. We wanted to keep an open mind to create and stretch without being distracted. So we went to the desert and blocked everything out", Playdough said. The Dallas, TX duo found themselves recording in a studio on the Nevada/California border in Death Valley. "It was the perfect balance of separation and natural beauty that we wanted", says Sean Patrick.
The result is 10 songs that find the emcee/deejay combination pushing beyond their traditional Hip-Hop roots into more guitar driven songs with catchy melodies. "On the surface the songs are fun and meant for a great time, but look a little deeper and the project is laced with metaphors and allegories comparing the value of wisdom over gold", said Playdough.
A big part of their story is a dedicated fan base. After announcing pre-order packages with limited edition vinyl and wooden boom boxes engraved with the album art, they saw packages sell out in less than a day. They make a strong effort to connect with fans, who in return have supported the project and enabled "We Buy Gold" to be funded independently. Proof that people are excited about Playdough and Sean's latest offering.
They place a large emphasis on their live show, and it's allowed them to play for sold out venues in their hometown as well as tour the United States. Playdough and Sean Patrick have played shows with Mutemath, Leon Bridges, Astronautalis, Mos Def, Kool Keith and the list goes on. Playdough was also listed in the "Top 50 Underground Artists" by AllHipHop for 3 consecutive years, and he continues to expand his sound on We Buy Gold.###
